7pm: Emmylou Harris

Emmylou Harris has recorded more than 25 albums and has lent her talents to countless fellow artists' recordings. In recognition of her remarkable career, Harris was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008 and earned a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 2018.

Harris is known as much for her eloquently straightforward songwriting as for her incomparably expressive singing. Admired through her career for her talent as an artist and song connoisseur, Harris shook up country radio in the 1970s, and established herself as the premier songwriter of a generation selling more than 15 million records and garnering 14 Grammy Awards, three CMA Awards, and four Americana Awards.

Harris is one of the most admired and influential women in music. She has recorded with such diverse artists as Linda Ronstadt, Daniel Lanois, Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison, Ryan Adams, Beck, Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Lyle Lovett and Rodney Crowell.

7pm: Opening Night Orchestra: Beethoven Symphony No. 3 "Eroica"

Kick off the season with a sumptuous program, beginning with an evocation of the humpback whale in a work for solo harp by 40-year-old Japanese-American composer Takuma Itoh and two works by Arnold Schoenberg, each celebrating its 150th anniversary and composed in the deliciously rich tonal language of turn-of-the-century Vienna. A fresh arrangement of Beethoven's epic Eroica Symphony will ring in the new season with peals of triumph and joy.

Join us for an exclusive concert and interview with one of the world's premiere solo harpists, Yolanda Kondonassis. With 23 albums, Yolanda is widely recognized as one of the world's most recorded artists. Yolanda will be interviewed by Strings Music Director Michael Sachs.

At our signature House Parties, guests enjoy a private concert, co*cktails and hors d'oeuvres, a lively Q&A, and a chance to mingle with musicians. These very special events are fundraisers for Strings' programs in the Yampa Valley.

10am: Music on the Green: John Fog and Carolyn Berns

Join us every Wednesday morning this summer for our weekly free concert series, co-presented by the Yampa River Botanic Park. With concerts lasting just 45 minutes, it's the perfect way to enjoy a summer morning.

To kick-off the 2024 Music on the Green Series, we have Carolyn Berns and John Fog! Carolyn is a classically trained acoustic and electric violinist. Performing with professional orchestras around the country as well as recording studios, vocals and violin have been her life as long as she can remember.

John picked up the guitar while working on a ranch 30 miles outside Pinedale, Wyoming. There was no electricity and few distractions, so he dedicated the evening hours to learning. He now plays a blend of covers and originals in the Americana vein.

7pm: Twilight Yoga

Bring your yoga mat and bug spray to sunset classes in our beautiful Festival Park. Teachers from Harmony Yoga lead all-levels classes to the sounds of Strings' classical evening concert. Harmony classes focus on breath for grounding, movement for alignment of energy and extra long savasana for embodiment of our practice. Following the event, join your fellow yogis in a non-alcoholic drink reception as the sun sets on Mt. Werner. Come for the yoga, stay for community connection. Dress in layers for varying weather.

7pm: Classical Piano Trio and Quintet

Starts at $35

Delight in the refined and witty classical style as it unfolds in the intimacy of small ensembles. The great master of conversational music, Haydn, is showcased in a movement of poise and grace. Schubert and Rossini bring their unique voices to the event, each in their own configuration of instruments. The evening culminates with Hummel's Quintet for piano, violin, viola, cello, and double bass, a true charmer that is sure to captivate.

10am: Music on the Green: Randy Kelley and Jon Gibbs

Jon and Randy met at a Jam night in 1994, and they played together in Greg Scott's Smokehouse band in 1998 and eventually the Worried Men in 2001 at the Old Town Pub. The Worried Men had a good run of Friday nights at the Mahogany Ridge from 2003 until 2009 and then took a break to spend time with families. Jon and Randy realized they had a similar taste for offbeat songs, old swing tunes, and just about anything different from the average fare heard in bars.

7:00pm: Melissa Etheridge: I'm Not Broken Tour

Starts at $145

Melissa Etheridge stormed onto the American rock scene in 1988 with the release of her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, which led to an appearance on the 1989 Grammy Awards show. For several years, her popularity grew around such memorable originals as "Bring Me Some Water," "No Souvenirs" and "Ain't It Heavy," for which she won a Grammy in 1992. Etheridge hit her commercial and artistic stride with her fourth album, Yes I Am (1993). The collection featured the massive hits, "I'm the Only One" and "Come to My Window," a searing song of longing that brought Etheridge her second Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Performance. In 1995, Etheridge issued her highest charting album, Your Little Secret, which was distinguished by the hit single, "I Want to Come Over." Her astounding success that year led to Etheridge receiving the Songwriter of the Year honor at the ASCAP Pop Awards in 1996.

7pm: Brent Rown and Friends featuring Clay Walker

Clay Walker stands as a towering figure in country music. His illustrious career includes multi-platinum sales, 11 chart-topping hits, and 40 singles on the charts. His songs, including classics like "If I Could Make A Living" and "She Won't Be Lonely Long," resonate deeply, etching his name into the fabric of the genre. In 1996, Walker faced a new battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), but rather than yielding to its challenges, he emerged as a fierce advocate and fundraiser, establishing the Clay Walker Foundation to support those affected by the disease. His latest album, Texas To Tennessee, produced by industry heavyweights Michael Knox and Jaron Boyer, soared to No. 1 on the iTunes Country Album charts. Drawing inspiration from legends like George Jones, James Taylor and Bob Seger, Walker's music transcends generations, earning him a well-deserved place among country music royalty. A member of the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, Walker continues to captivate audiences nationwide, gracing stages from coast to coast with his electrifying performances, showcasing his unwavering passion for music and advocacy.

Brent Rowan made his mark as a Nashville studio guitarist and record producer, nominated nine times for Country Music Association awards. In addition to over 15,000 recording sessions, he has played on dozens of film soundtracks and recorded with Chris LeDoux, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Olivia Newton-John, Sting, and Neil Diamond, along with many others.

10am: Music on the Green: Chamberlin Birch

Join us every Wednesday morning this summer for our weekly free concert series, co-presented by the Yampa River Botanic Park. With concerts lasting just 45 minutes, it's the perfect way to enjoy a summer morning.

Performing this week is Chamberlin Birch, a duo made up of singer-songwriters Jody Feeley and Brad Rasmussen who feature a unique style with tight harmonies and creative instrumentation. Based in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Chamberlin Birch has taken the Americana/Folk sound of the mountains and made it their own. Along with writing their own music, they bring their unique style to cover songs from a range of genres. They affectionately call their style "Indie Core Alt Country Pop," a tribute to their versatility.

7pm: Jason Vieaux: Solo Guitar

Grammy-winner Jason Vieaux, "among the elite of today's classical guitarists" (Gramophone), is described by NPR as "perhaps the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation".

In appearances from New York's Lincoln Center to Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and the Seoul Arts Center, Jason Vieaux has cemented his reputation as an artist of
brilliance and uncompromised mastery. Cited for his "eloquent and vibrant performances" on disc (Gramophone Magazine) he is hailed as "virtuosic, flamboyant, dashing, and, sometimes ineffably lyrical" (New York Times) on stage.

7pm: Squirrel Nut Zippers Present Jazz from the Back O' Town

Iconic New Orleans based Jazz Rockers Squirrel Nut Zippers will be taking fans on a magical, musical voyage to the birthplace of jazz as they present Jazz from the Back O' Town.The show explores the New Orleans Back O' Town Jazz scene of the late 19th century through the oaringTwenties as the Zippers provide a delightful view into this mystical era with reverent, yet exciting, renditions of such seminal classics as Jelly Roll Morton's "Animule Ball," LouisArmstrong's "Back O' Town Blues," as well as favorites from their own catalog, adapted and arranged to more closely echo the sounds of 1920s New Orleans. 7pm: Busch Trio

Starts at $30

Named after the legendary violinist Adolf Busch, this young Netherlands-based ensemble has emerged as one of the leading piano trios among the new generation. Winners of the 2012 Royal Overseas League Competition, the trio has garnered several prizes at international competitions including the Salieri-Zinetti Competition and the Pinerolo Competition in Italy and the International Schumann Chamber Music Award in Frankfurt. Pianist Omri Epstein, violinist Mathieu van Bellen, and cellist Ori Epstein have all won prizes in solo international competitions. The trio has received guidance from distinguished artists such as Gary Hoffman and Andras Schiff and are currently mentored by members of the Artemis Quartet at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels, where they are trio in residence.

7pm: The Mavericks - Moon & Stars Summer Tour '24

Performing this week is singer-songwriter and composer, Trevor G. Potter. With a style that reflects the American landscape, Trevor G. Potter's songs hold a certain plain-spoken truth that touch on common themes of people and places. He has produced 3 CD's of acclaimed original music "Curbside Vacancy", "Potter County and Points Far Beyond" and "A Cumulative Collection of Song and Session." A strong string of major national festival appearances, headlining and opening shows have helped to create his solid reputation as a live performer.

7pm: Thalea String Quartet

The Thalea String Quartet brings their signature vibrancy and emotional commitment to dynamic performances that reflect the past, present, and the future of the string quartet repertoire while celebrating diverse musical traditions from around the world. Fueled by the belief that chamber music is a powerful force for building community and human connection, the Thalea String Quartet has performed across North America, Europe, and China, and has appeared at the Kennedy Center, Massey Hall, and Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall. They have shared the stage with luminaries of the chamber music world, including members of the Emerson, Brentano, and St. Lawrence String Quartets, and they have performed alongside celebrated artists including Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, violist Lawrence Power, acclaimed Canadian band BADBADNOTGOOD, Detroit hip hop icon Mahogany Jones, and visionary R+B artist Charlotte Day Wilson.

7pm: DeVotchKa

Starts at $50

Colorado-based quartet DeVotchKa formed in Denver by multi-instrumentalists Nick Urata (vocals, guitar, trumpet), Tom Hagerman (violin, accordion), Jeanie Schroder (sousaphone, bass) and percussionist Shawn King, and emerged as unlikely indie heroes in the mid-2000s infusing modern indie music with a global flavor.

They found widespread success in 2006 with their Grammy-nominated soundtrack to the hit indie film Little Miss Sunshine. Signing with revered indie, Anti-, the band delivered A Mad and Faithful Telling in early 2008, reaching the number nine slot on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. A lengthy world tour followed, including stops at major festivals like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Bumbershoot. After doing more soundtrack work, this time for the 2009 comedy I Love You Phillip Morris, the group returned to the studio for 2011's moody and triumphant 100 Lovers. Embarking on another world tour, they collaborated with the Colorado Symphony on the 2012 concert album Live with the Colorado Symphony. Over the next several years, Urata became increasingly involved in his own film composition career, scoring movies like Crazy Stupid Love, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Paddington, and the Netflix series A Series of Unfortunate Events. Meanwhile, the band regrouped for a lengthy recording session, eventually returning in 2018 with their sixth album, This Night Falls Forever, this time via Concord Records.

7pm: Steep Canyon Rangers

Starts at $50

The Rangers are made up of Graham Sharp on banjo and vocals; Mike Guggino on mandolin/mandola and vocals; Nicky Sanders on fiddle and vocals; Mike Ashworth on drums and vocals; Barrett Smith on bass, guitar, and vocals; and Aaron Burdett on guitar and vocals. Steep Canyon Rangers have been on a journey that is uniquely their own. The band started in college at UNC-Chapel Hill, then dove head first into bluegrass in its most traditional form. Over the years they have risen to the top of the bluegrass genre headlining top festivals such as Merlefest and Grey Fox Bluegrass. They were ultimately discovered by Steve Martin, famous actor and banjo player. Martin has taken the Rangers on a decade-long tour introducing them to hundreds of thousands of new fans and giving them prime time TV exposure. This has helped Steep Canyon Rangers become the most recognizable modern name in bluegrass music. The band has continued to tour extensively on their own, without Martin, and have expanded their genre into country, jam, and Americana. The Rangers are big players in the bluegrass/country and Americana scene today. They are often compared to predecessors The Band, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and the modern Zac Brown Band.

Over the band's esteemed career, the three-time Grammy nominees have released 14 studio albums and three collaborative albums with actor and banjoist Steve Martin. They were inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, and appeared on some of music's biggest stages. In 2013, Nobody Knows You won the GRAMMY Award for Best Bluegrass Album, while 2012's Rare Bird and 2020's North Carolina Songbook garnered nominations in the same category.

7pm: Emi Ferguson and Ruckus

Starts at $50

Based in New York City, Ruckus' core is a continuo group, the baroque equivalent of a jazz rhythm section: guitars, keyboards, cello, bassoon and bass. Other members include soloists of the violin, flute and oboe. The ensemble aims to fuse the early-music movement's questing, creative spirit with the grit, groove, and jangle of American roots music, creating a unique sound of "rough-edged intensity" (The New Yorker). The group's members are among the most creative and virtuosic performers in North American early music.

Ruckus' debut album, Fly the Coop, a collaboration with flutist Emi Ferguson, was Billboard's #2 Classical album upon its release. Performances of Fly the Coop have been described as "a fizzing, daring display of personality and imagination" (New York Times). The Boston Musical Intelligencer describes the group as taking continuo playing to "not simply a new level, but a revelatory new dimension of dynamism altogether… an eruption of pure, pulsing hoedown joy."

7pm: Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors

Starts at $45

There are no strangers at a Drew Holcomb show. For the better part of two decades, the award-winning songwriter has brought his audience together night after night, turning his shows into celebrations of community, collaboration, and contemporary American roots music. Strangers No More, the ninth album from Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, celebrates that sense of togetherness. Produced by Cason Cooley, it expands the band's mix of timeless songwriting, modern-day Laurel Canyon folk, amplified Americana, and heartland rock & roll. "All The Money in the World," with its deep-pocketed groove that showcases The Neighbors' musicality, is punctuated by blasts of brass, marking the band's first song to feature horns. "That's On You, That's On Me" makes room for barrelhouse piano, slide guitar, and the greasy grit of a juke joint rock band. "On a Roll" and "Possibility" are Springsteen-sized rock & roll melodramas that wail and exalt, their cinematic arrangements built for the large rooms that Holcomb regularly plays these days. "Fly" is a reflective, finger-plucked folksong. Finally, there's "Dance With Everybody," a lively tribute to the live show that brims with a joyful optimism—a feeling that was often missing during the band's earlier years, when their shows weren't nearly as packed. Song by song, Strangers No More offers an all-encompassing view not only of the places Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors have been, but where they're headed next, too. It's an invitation into the band's world. Strangers no more, indeed.

6pm: Erinys Quartet at the Granary

Head west to the Hayden Granary for an evening of live music with Erinys Quartet! Indulge in delicious offerings from Yampa Valley Brewing Company, Wild Goose Coffee, and Embers Pizza and experience the unique charm of this historic gathering place, all while supporting Hayden's historic preservation efforts.

The Erinys Quartet appears by special arrangement with Curtis on Tour, the Nina von Maltzahn global touring initiative of the Curtis Institute of Music. During the 2023-2024 season the Erinys Quartet performed concerts around the world, including the United States, Spain, Austria, and Finland.

Named for the Erinyes (a.k.a. the Furies) from the Greek tragedy Oresteia by Aeschylus, and with roots in Estonia, Lithuania, Greece, the United States and Finland, the Erinys Quartet was founded in 2018 at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki where they worked closely with cellist Marko Ylönen. Since Autumn 2023 Erinys has been the Nina von Maltzahn String Quartet-in-Residence at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA (USA).

7pm: Watchhouse

Starts at $75

Over a year after Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz of Watchhouse (formerly known as Mandolin Orange) reintroduced themselves on their 2021 self-titled LP, the pair shared a special surprise release: Watchhouse (Duo), a self-produced recording of Marlin and Frantz performing the most elemental possible arrangements of all nine songs from Watchhouse. It's a project that captures the fundamental power of Watchhouse: Two singers and musicians with profound chemistry, performing earnest yet masterfully crafted songs that encompass the unknowable mysteries, existential heartbreak, and communal joys of modern life.

Named for the Erinyes (a.k.a. the Furies) from the Greek tragedy Oresteia by Aeschylus, and with roots in Estonia, Lithuania, Greece, the United States and Finland, the Erinys Quartet was founded in 2018 at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki where they worked closely with cellist Marko Ylönen. Since Autumn 2023 Erinys has been the Nina von Maltzahn String Quartet-in-Residence at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA (USA).

In 2023-2024 season, the Erinys Quartet will present concerts around the world, including the United States, Spain, Austria, and Finland. In addition to their studies at Curtis with the Dover Quartet, Erinys is pursuing a diploma in chamber music at Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain under the tutelage of Professor Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartett).

In the hands of the great Russian tone painter Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, twenty-four strings (on two each of violins, violas, and cellos) produce a tapestry of sound in his String Sextet that surprises and captivates at every exciting turn. 10am: Music on the Green: The Little Moon Travelers

Join us every Wednesday morning this summer for our weekly free concert series, co-presented by the Yampa River Botanic Park. With concerts lasting just 45 minutes, it's the perfect way to enjoy a summer morning.

Joining us this week are The Little Moon Travelers! The Little Moon Travelers blend folk, old time and roots Americana influences to produce a sound that harkens to times past. The band took shape in a local hideaway called Little Moon Trail in the hills of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. During the covid lockdown, these musicians gathered around the?fire pit with their instruments. These unrehearsed get-togethers helped them and many others ward off the restlessness we all felt. The informal strumming sessions invited those listening to put aside their worries and connect more freely with each other in the present moment. They are thrilled to bring to the world their brand of live roots music.

7pm: Baroque Masterworks with Soprano Joélle Harvey

Baroque-era composers prized the trumpet's majestic and valiant attributes and discovered its ideal match in the soprano voice. Discover magnificent music for this duo from some of the greatest composers of all time, including J. S. Bach and George Friedrich Handel. Cimafunk has received overwhelming praise touring the US and Europe, making a name for himself as one of today's great showmen, performing an electric live show with La Tribu, his 9-person band from Havana. Across his career, Shakey Graves — a.k.a. the performance moniker of Austin, Texas-born Alejandro Rose-Garcia — has intentionally created thrilling musical adventures tailored to each fan: burning CDs and putting them in personalized decorated bags; building intricate scavenger hunts that send fans in search of unique tapes; and Bandcamp-exclusive releases.

"The fans and musicians that really resonate with me — and the inexplicable ways that I find things that I like — are usually entirely through randomness and chaos and accident," Rose-Garcia says. "I've always been on this quest to make people feel like my own music is a choose your own adventure."

As Rose-Garcia releases his new Shakey Graves album Movie of the Week — a collection of songs whittled down from epic-length recording sessions — he has devised one of his most innovative musical adventures yet. "For the album release, I'm setting up a website," he says. "On this website, there will be a way to shuffle a collection of alternate tracks and unique songs from the sessions in seemingly infinite combinations to create new albums." Born of the 2010's folk boom and now comfortably stationed in their rock and roll era, The Crane Wives epitomize the evolving sound of the indie genre. Having performed hundreds of shows on stages across the country, they gravitate toward high-energy melodies, featuring the kinetic percussion of Dan Rickabus, the silky, driving bass lines of Ben Zito and playful guitar leads from front women Emilee Petersmark and Kate Pillsbury. Counterbalancing their lively stage presence, their lyrics extol the shadow side of the human condition, delving into mythology and themes of darkness and inner conflict. The Deer Creek Sharp Shooters were formed in 2012 in Harford County, MD by 6 friends who came together with a common love for bluegrass and a dream to push the limits of acoustic music. Based in Steamboat Springs and Denver, Colorado since 2016, DCSS has found their stride within the incredible bluegrass community. The Sharp Shooters put on high energy and fun-loving shows, jumping quickly from high paced bluegrass to goofy songs about cats. The energy on stage when these guys get together is infectious.

7pm: Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes

Nicolas Reyes has been the leader and co-founder of the Gipsy Kings for well over 30 years. In the past three decades, they have dominated the World Music charts and sold more than 14 million albums worldwide. Their platinum compilation, The Best of the Gipsy Kings, was charting for over a year upon its release and their ninth studio album, Savor Flamenco, was awarded the Grammy for Best World Music Album in 2013.

This iconic legacy began when Nicolas' father, Jose Reyes, formed a celebrated flamenco duo with Manitas de Plata (which boasted fans as famed as Miles Davis and Pablo Picasso). When the pair parted ways, the elder Reyes became even more popular upon starting his own band, backed by his son, called Los Reyes. In later years, Nicolas headed out on his own and began playing in the town of Arles in the south of France. He traveled throughout the country, busking on the streets of Saint-Tropez, playing wherever he could. Having adopted the perpetual motion of the gypsy lifestyle, his band eventually translated "Los Reyes" and became the Gipsy Kings.

The band's music went on to fuse with popular culture. In addition to the accolades above, the traveling Gipsy Kings have played some of the world's greatest stages, from the Hollywood Bowl to Royal Albert Hall as well as hitting the big screen. Their rendition of "Hotel California" was included in the film The Big Lebowski and the HBO series Entourage. The 2010 film Toy Story 3 featured a Gipsy Kings version of the movie's popular, Randy Newman-penned theme, "You've Got a Friend in Me". The Gipsy Kings recently featured in a Big Lebowski spinoff The Jesus Rolls with Reyes appearing in person with the director and star, John Turturro, for some of the promotion.

As active as this remarkable collective remains, they are also confident in the future of their legacy. "Even though it's been 30 years, we want to keep on making new music because it's our life. It's who we are," says Nicolas Reyes. "But I think there will be a time when we pass down the Gipsy Kings to our sons".

30 years is an eternity in pop music, but the story of the Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes has the depth to endure. Theirs is a music that extends through generations, to the sounds of their ancestors—Spanish Romani people who fled the Catalonia region during the Spanish Civil War—and reflects the vibrantly eclectic and peripatetic history of the gitanos.

Melvin Seals has been a powerful presence in the music industry for over 30 years with a long-established reputation as a performer, recording artist, and producer. Melvin is most revered for his powerful, high-spirited, Hammond B-3 organ, and keyboards in the Jerry Garcia Band. Melvin spun his B-3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 years and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become "Jam Band Music". From blues to funk to rock to jazz, Melvin Seals serves up a tasty mix with a little R&B and gospel thrown in to spice things up.

Melvin and JGB bring an intuitive, expressive style, soul, spontaneity, and remarkable chops to the table. The National Parks translate these sensations into songs. Having met and bonded over sea shanties across a kitchen table in their native Bristol a decade ago, The Longest Johns–Jonathan ‘JD' Darley, Andy Yates and Robbie Sattin–have reimagined many of folk's classic songs while adding their own unique style of songwriting to the melting pot to keep the flame of the tradition alive. In doing so, they have graced the stages of international folk festivals and toured the UK, Europe and North America.

Justin Roberts has been creating the soundtrack to families' lives for 25 years. Now, with his 16th full-length album, Space Cadet, Justin's rock journey goes interstellar with feel-good songs rooted in themes of inclusion, acceptance, and self-discovery. Justin has been praised by the New York Times for his "remarkable ability to see through a child's eyes" and is known for writing meaningful songs that acknowledge kids' emotional depth while still letting the fun shine through.

Doctor Noize, aka Corey Cullinan, inspires creativity, curiosity and character through music, art and words. He is many things: Stanford Music grad, Master of Recording Arts, commissioned composer for stage and screen, author, app creator, teacher, speaker, studio owner, philosopher, and goofball.

Doctor Noize's catalog of recordings is known for its unique combination of exuberant joy, high-quality production, revered guest musicians, and narrative musical structure. Each album is an adventure balancing inspirational learning with positive storytelling and songwriting anyone can explore. Real-life family–Susanna Hamnett, Joshua MacGregor, and Lily MacGregor–play the bereaved family of the once-great actor, Henry Elder, who was billed to perform his career-defining solo Hamlet at the famous Elsinore Shakespeare Festival. But, as they discover, Henry Elder is determined not to let anything as inconvenient as death prevent him from being there. With Shakespeare's Hamlet as the pivot around which the family's story revolves, the play is by turns absurd and poignant.
